Third Quarter 2016 Deputy COO, Emerging Markets World Equity, CIT vehicles funds and US Small Cap Equity Strategy


Axiom welcomes new Health Care Analyst and broadens equity ownership to Deputy COO
Axiom Investors is pleased to announce the appointment of Carl Brown to the global sector research analyst team. Carl will be focusing on the health care sector working as part of our team of global sector analysts alongside Axiom’s portfolio managers. Andrew H. Jacobson, CEO and Chief Investment Officer, commented that, “Carl’s strong health care stock selection track record and sector expertise accumulated over many years of investing in growth stocks across the full range of sub-sectors and market capitalizations made him the standout candidate to contribute to our all cap Dynamic Growth investment strategies”.

Carl brings over 17 years of health care investment experience including investing in pharmaceutical, biotech, health services and medical device companies, in the US as well as overseas. He was most recently a Portfolio Manager at Royce & Associates, an investment advisor based in New York specializing in small and mid-cap portfolios, where Carl worked on their growth strategy. He has also held portfolio management positions at Rebus Partners and Cramer Rosenthal McGlynn. Carl’s focus at those firms included mid and large cap health care companies. Carl earned his B.A. in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the New York University Stern School of Business.

Axiom broadened equity ownership to Edward Azimi, Deputy Chief Operating Officer, bringing the total number of equity shareholders to 20 individuals. We remain 100% employee owned with no outside equity interests. Edward joined Axiom in June 2015 after 9 years of overseeing the operations team at Epoch Investment Partners. Prior to that, Edward held senior operational roles at Cramer Rosenthal McGlynn. Edward earned his B.B.A. in Finance from the Pace University and an MBA from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University.

Axiom Emerging Markets World Equity
During the quarter, Axiom renamed the Axiom Emerging Markets All Cap Equity Strategy to the Axiom Emerging Markets World Equity Strategy to better clarify the investment opportunity in alignment with industry naming conventions. There have been no changes to the investment philosophy, approach and strategy objective as a result of the name change. The Axiom Emerging Markets World Equity Strategy is a diversified and flexible strategy that was developed to take advantage of the changing nature of the emerging markets landscape. In addition to direct investments emerging markets companies, the team can invest up to 20% of the portfolio in developed market stocks that exhibit Dynamic Growth in developing economies.

The Strategy is led by Axiom’s founder and CIO, Andrew Jacobson. Global Equity Lead Portfolio Manager, Bradley Amoils, and Emerging Markets Equity Portfolio Managers, Christopher Lively and Donald Elefson, work with Andrew on the strategy. As of September 30, 2016, the Strategy has achieved an annualized, inception-to-date return of -0.7% gross of fees versus -4.1% for the MSCI EM benchmark.

Three Axiom CIT vehicles funded for a collective $136M
This year, in an effort to better serve the need of our US defined contribution and ERISA clients, Axiom launched daily-valued Collective Investment Trusts (CITs) in partnership with SEI for our long-only strategy offerings. Effective October 1, 2016, we are pleased to announce that new investors have funded the CIT vehicles for a collective investment of $136 million across the Axiom International Equity, Axiom International Small Cap Equity and Axiom Emerging Markets World Equity Strategies. All long-only strategies are open to investors and our commitment remains focused on performance execution and serving our clients’ investment needs.

Axiom US Small Cap Equity Strategy reaches its 10 year track record
The Axiom US Small Cap Equity Strategy surpassed its 10-year track record since launching on Sep. 1, 2006, achieving an annualized, inception-to-date return of 10.3% gross of fees versus 8.3% for the Russell 2000 Growth benchmark as of Sep. 30, 2016. The Strategy, managed by David Kim, CFA, and co-managed by Matthew Franco, CFA, utilized the same Dynamic Growth approach as other Axiom strategies and leverages the firm’s seven global sector analysts. David and Matt average 20 years of experience investing in small cap stocks and have collaborated together at Axiom for over a decade. The strategy is open to new investors.
